It has almost been a year since the COVID-19 pandemic really took off in the United States, and back in March a year ago many gyms across the nation were shut down temporarily to slow and prevent the spread of COVID-19. Since March 2020 states across the nation have allowed gyms to reopen to some extent but other places have kept gyms closed or only have allowed outdoor operations of gyms.

With many gyms being closed, not having the ability to reopen with modifications, or patrons being uncomfortable with returning to the gym because of COVID-19, many people have turned to at home workouts. Home workouts are very easy to find whether it is doing a five minute ab workout on YouTube or doing yoga from an Instagram live there are many options to replace the gym with your house. Although with so much workout content and advice on the internet questions arise like, is the coach in this video a real choice or has this “lose 20 pounds in ten days” Instagram workout plan been proven to work before? With so many questionable at home workouts, Planet Fitness has come out with an app with reliable at home workouts taught by trained fitness coaches to fill the void of their gyms being closed.

With Planet Fitness still having to keep their gyms closed in some places like California, they have offered a reliable alternate service to their patrons. Instead of leaving patrons who pay for gym memberships on their own to find reliable and proven to work at home workouts, Planet Fitness has given patrons access to classes offered at gyms and access to reliable at home workouts from certified trainers to keep up with their fitness and not have to worry about wasting time doing a YouTube workout that might not even work.

Maria Esponosia, a Planet Fitness member said, “the access to the app and it’s workouts is the reason why I have kept my membership even though my gym is closed, because the workouts are fun and I know they work. After a workout in their app I feel like I went to the gym.”

In addition to offering patrons workouts while many of their gyms remain close, Planet Fitness has also allowed some employees to continue to work by letting them teach some of these virtual workouts and classes offered through the app or on Facebook. Finding alternate ways to allow employees to remain working and active is very important especially for an industry hit hard by the pandemic.

So, if you are tired of not seeing a difference from doing YouTube workouts or do not feel like you are getting as good as a workout at home as you usually do in the gym then checkout the Planet Fitness app, and when they reopen their gyms in places that are still closed you can go to the gym and still have access to virtual workouts.
